Second Stage of Trousers

After I machine stitched into the trousers I passed them onto Emma, she decided to dye them. The dye worked really well and it's interesting to see that different areas of the trousers were dyed different shades, some threads also got dyed in the process. 

Dissolvable Samples

To get the idea of 'slow is beautiful' across in our work, we decided to create some samples using water dissolvable fabric and then film the water dissolving the fabric and perhaps edit that film to slow motion to be able to see the slowness of dissolving fabric. Here are some of my samples..

I stitched the word Manchester to show it moving and dissolving slowly, suggesting slowing down the city itself.

Dissolvable Fabric

These are the images from our filming session this week. This was my dissolvable fabric piece from the last post and we filmed lots of our samples slowing dissolving into warm water. We want to put some of the films we have taken of the dissolvable pieces into our final film.

From photos to fabric

I really enjoy machine embroidery, and in our group we discussed that machine embroidery and hand stitch are going to take center stage in our project as they are both slow processes and require love and patience. I have taken fabrics and dyed them, then taking colours from my photos and using thread and different machine feet to explore and experiment with stitch on the machine, creating different textures and feel to the fabric. I want to carry on experimenting and begin to start on a final sample, perhaps stitching into the inside of a shirt or the inside lining of a pair of trousers to create the 'hidden gems' effect.

Watercoloured bricks

This is a video of one of the samples that I had done of the red bricks. I used watercolour on fabric as it would give me that blended and mouldy effect that was on the bricks. I felt as though it had worked really well. I took photographs of the process and it looks as though the mould is growing and eventually dies out. Tell me what you think of the video, maybe i could add music?

This is a piece I have been working on through the Easter break. I started thinking about some of the place we visited around Manchester and the idea of maps that had been developing over the last few group meetings since the start of the project.
